MINUTES OF SU MEETING HELD 27th Jan 1 2 4 LK gave NM brief for self-harm awareness training session. NM to send to Dean, Dave Bacon and Wendy Pennington to be approved. Date proposed is the 23rd Feb. KD discussed that due to the snow the tournaments couldn’t go ahead. KD will look into rebooking the sports hall. Officers to email NM with any change of office hours. Deadline March. NSS campaign – Laptops will be in the Atrium ready for 3rd year students to go online and fill out the survey. Students will be entered into a raffle for a goody basket. Valentines stall – selling roses for £1.00 or £1.50 including delivery. Chocolate heart bags sold for £2.50. Haiti campaign will be present in The Curve, selling £1 raffles for signed shirts and Haiti bands for £2. Complaints – Judith Moss reads from Lecture Notes Complaints – Val Lowe classes aren’t changeling. Terry McDonough- very good teacher. Nest UCBC Student Committee will be on the 2nd Feb 5 till 6 in 321. Dates for diaries: 31st March – Careers Fair 17th Feb at 1pm – Lancaster visit. All officers confirmed that wanted to visit Lancaster SU. NM to sort train tickets out. 24th March – Fashion Show 30th April – Debating activity During Easter – TBC – Staff vs students quiz SU to email NM with ideas for sports relief. SU officers to ask students if they want a May ball and what would they like for end of year do. The SU is now on moodle. NM discussed that the first Wednesday of every month the SU will hold free brunch in The Curve that students can attend via invitation. NM gave officers invitations to hand out to students. Students can come talk to officers about any problems or anything positive about the Uni. SU officers discussed that students felt quite strongly about the student ID card not having the UCBC logo on it. They felt that it looked like they were still in College because of the logo. NM will forward this to HEM. SU officers discussed that they felt they should get their money back at the end of the year for their fobs. They also said they preferred to have the card instead of the fob. NM will forward this to HEM. NM asked if all the students knew why the water in the toilets was brown. NM explained that we reuse the rain water from the roof of the building for the toilets as we are an eco-friendly building. SU discussed that if we had posters or leaflets explaining this to students they would feel a lot happier as they will be informed more. KD discussed that some of the computers on the 1st floor in the library homedrives do not work. NM asked KD to find out which computers and NM will email the manager of the library. SU officers asked why you couldn’t get out of the library upstairs. NM explained that on the bottom doors there is a security system built in that means you cannot leave the library without your book being signed out, the upstairs doors do not have this and it is very expensive to buy. SU officers discussed that a lot of students have complained about the procedure of handing coursework’s in to reception. They asked if it could be done in admin and more staff put in place when they knew deadlines were put on rather than at reception. SU officers informed that students are also complaining about the receptionist Kirsty and how rude she is. SC informed that he couldn’t get on his SU email. NM to check.

SC discussed that he will email Dave Ellis to see if we can use their facilities to record the podcast. SC to email all members that are of interest. SC discussed getting in local bands and asking them to play in the centre once we have the licence.

NM discussed that the SU will be holding a Valentines stall in the Atrium on the 10th and 11th Feb in conjunction with NSS campaign. JH volunteered to be a cupid. NM to buy outfits. NM needs all officers helping out on the day.

ME discussed that the website will be launched on the 1st Feb. Needs officers to send him information about themselves. It’s a working process so please send in content.
SU officers have attended UCBC Student Committee and some are course reps. Overall officers feel that the teaching and learning experience is good.
