Elections

 Election Guidance
All students that enrol at UCBC are automatically part of the SU. All members of the student union can stand for election. Any student that has opted out of the Student Union in writing cannot stand for the election.
Elections take place before March and if any post on the executive committee falls vacant then a by-election is arranged by the SU Liaison Officer.

Nominations
Students can nominate by filling out a nomination form found in the library, the curve, reception or in the SU office. Students can choose to nominate themselves for one or more roles. The nomination form will have to be signed by two other UCBC students and handed into Nadia Mahernia in 007 or reception by the deadline stated on the nomination form.  Once you have filled out your nomination form you need to start thinking about creating a poster and leaflet which will be handed into SU Laision Officer before the week of campaigning. A list of all nominees will be put onto the notice boards in UCBC and updates will be posted on the SU moodle site.

Positions in the Student Union are:

President

Education Officer

Welfare Officer

Equality Officer

International Officer

Democracy and Communications Officer

Campaigns Officer

Disability Officer

Once the elections have been completed there will be a chance for students to apply for the role webmaster. Applicants will have to provide a portfolio and will be interviewed by members of the SU.

Where do students vote?

Students can vote by filling out a ballot paper which can be found in the Curve, library and on the reception desk. Students can only vote once and can only choose to vote for one officer in each role.
Any student that cannot make into the centre during the election week may contact Nadia Mahernia; N.Mahernia@blackburn.ac.uk; Tel no. 01254292844 to request a ballot paper via post or proxy. SU officers are to nominate one impartial individual to scrutinize the counting of votes.
If students feel that none of the names nominated for a position are who they wish to support they can opt for ‘re-open nominations’ (RON), which is essentially saying that you wish the election to run again with new nominees.
SU Liaison Officer and nominated individual will count all votes on the announced results date. All nominees will be contacted and a list of the results will be put on the notice boards, SU website, moodle and in an email to all students and staff.
