There will be borough council elections in 21 of Blackburn with Darwen's 23 wards this year. There will be no local elections in North Turton with Tockholes and Earcroft wards .
The general election will also be held on that day.
And although a date hasn't yet been announced for the parliamentary election, it's expected to be held on the same day.
Having a postal vote, or sending someone else to the polling station as a proxy to vote on your behalf means you can still have your say in elections. If you're on holiday, these methods will help you. Don't miss your chance to vote.
Graham Burgess, returning officer for Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: "If you would like to vote by post or by proxy this year, you will need to send in an application form in the next few weeks.
"The deadline for postal voting applications is 5pm on Tuesday April 20.
"And for proxy voting applications it's 5pm on Tuesday April 27."
Application forms to appoint a proxy or to request a postal vote are available from the Elections Office at Blackburn Town Hall on 01254 585920 or email voting@blackburn.gov.uk
The elections office can also check if you are on the electoral register. If you have recently turned 18 or will do so by 6 May, make sure you are registered. The deadline for applications to register to vote is Tuesday, April 20.
